In America, the early performances of Maureen FitzSimons (who we know as Maureen O'Hara) would definitely have put her in the category of child prodigies. That was not unexpected as a girl who was of Irish heritage, raised within a talented family. Maureen was born in Ranelagh which was a suburb in Dublin the capital of Ireland on 17 August 1920. She was the daughter of Marguerita Lilburn FitzSimons, was an accomplished contralto. Charles FitzSimons ran a Dublin-based company and also was part owner of the Irish soccer team Shamrock Rovers. Maureen FitzSimons placed 2nd in the household of six FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons James O'Hara rounded off this stunning group. Maureen was a natural athlete and enjoyed playing tough athletic games. Her natural ability to perform was a perfect complement to her interest in sport. She took home almost every Feis Award for Theatre and Drama the country could provide. In her 14th year she joined with the Abbey Theater to follow her ambitions in classical theater and operatic vocals.
